John’s influence was huge in The Beatles, before he went on to launch his solo career and the Plastic Ono Band. As a songwriter and performer John co-wrote a staggering 25 Number One hits on the hot 100 U.S. charts. Rebellious by nature, he was a pacifist at heart and was also involved in political activism. Born on October 9, 1940, his life was tragically taken in 1980, but we are left with the most wonderful legacy and library of John’s song to reflect upon and enjoy.

The Substitutes
Playing the best of the British Invasion, The Substitutes recreate that 60s excitement and rawness that often gets lost with cover bands. Listen to a Dave Davies guitar solo or a Keith Moon drum fill and know that the 60s were about experimentation and shock, not just good pop melodies. With the incredible vocals and superb guitar work of Michael Barker, a rhythm section with Pete Robinson on bass (The Strangers) supported by Peter Reed on drums (ex New Dream) plus the punk energy of Adrian Scott on guitar and keys (Air Supply), The Substitutes faithfully produce the sounds of the 60s, just like the record, but with a real spirit, dry humour and a passion that you will remember … they are simply the best 60s band in Melbourne, bar none!
